indian paintbrushes

I've wondered since I was a kid why these would be called Indian paintbrushes. I mean, a paintbrush is a paintbrush, no? Maybe it's because the colours are so strong and vibrant.

That said, these aren't the paintbrushes I recall. The wonderful thing about wildflowers is the sheer variety.
